On Friday (07/10) and Sunday (08), an extratropical cyclone caused destruction in part of the Southern region, with at least six deaths reported in the interior of Paraná. The cyclone affected at least 86 cities in five states in the South and Southeast. There were various occurrences, such as flooding, road closures, fallen trees, and roof damage. Rio Bonito do Iguaçu, in Paraná, was devastated by a tornado.

City Destroyed
Around 90% of the city of Rio Bonito do Iguaçu was destroyed. The tornado in Rio Bonito do Iguaçu left at least 1,000 people displaced – relocated to the homes of acquaintances – and 28 homeless – depending on shelters. On the Fujita scale, which determines the intensity of tornadoes, the storm was classified as F3, with winds between 250 and 330 km/h. Throughout the state of Paraná, 6 people died and more than 700 were injured.
Santa Catarina
There were also repercussions in Santa Catarina. Municipalities in the western region recorded winds of 108 km/h, with rainfall accumulations exceeding 100 mm in 24 hours in some locations. The storm brought hail, felled trees, and torned roofs off houses in the cities of Itá, Itapiranga, Jorge Lacerda, Xanxerê, and Chapecó. The Civil Defense of Santa Catarina confirmed on Saturday the occurrence of three tornadoes in the west of the state, affecting the municipalities of Dionísio Cerqueira, Xanxerê, and Faxinal dos Guedes.
São Paulo
In the state of São Paulo, the cyclone caused collapses, roofs torn off buildings, landslides, flooding, and fallen trees. Winds reached 109 km/h in São José dos Campos, in the interior of the state. In total, 19 people were displaced throughout the state due to the storm.
In the city of São Paulo, the most serious incident was the partial collapse of a building in Itaquera, in the east zone. 96,000 properties were left without power in Greater São Paulo on Saturday (08). The most affected neighborhoods were Mandaqui, Saúde, Tucuruvi, Jardim Ângela, Campo Belo, Jabaquara and Santo Amaro, all in the north and south zones of the capital.
Rio de Janeiro
In the city of Rio de Janeiro, Saturday dawned with heavy rain and strong wind gusts throughout the day, with trees falling. 49 incidents were underway due to wind and rain, including fallen trees and branches. There were no reports of serious incidents or victims.
