On Friday (27/05), the Government reported that the stock of S10 diesel, the most traded in Brazil, is capable of guaranteeing the country’s supply for 38 days, if imports of this fuel and domestic production were stopped. Authorities also denied risk of shortages. The information was disclosed through a note from the Mines and Energy Ministry. The information was released after Petrobras sent a letter to the government and the National Petroleum Agency (ANP) warning of the risk of a shortage of diesel oil in the second half of 2022.
Petrobras’ Perspective
According to media sources, Petrobras’ Board of Directors assess that there is a real chance that the government will not adopt measures to face a possible shortage of diesel in the second half of this year and still blame the company if an eventual lack of fuel occurs. Petrobras’ members stated that the sending of a letter to warn the Government, on May 25th, about the risk of an eventual shortage of diesel in the world and in Brazil had the objective of registering that the company has given the alert so as not to be later to blame. Despite being warned, the government would not be demonstrating, in the opinion of directors and counselors, the necessary concern to face an emergency situation, which would not be restricted only to Brazil but also in other countries, due to seasonal phenomena and also conjunctural, such as Russia’s war in Ukraine.
