After the news that Petrobras was not going to hold the fuel readjustment, on Thursday (16/06), Federal Chamber President Arthur Lira and Civil House Minister Ciro Nogueira requested directly to Petrobras President José Mauro Coelho for the state company to withdraw from the decision. Lira and Ciro also demanded Mauro to immediately resign from the command of the state-owned company.
Latest Readjustment
On Friday (17/06), Petrobras officially announced new increases in the prices of gasoline and diesel sold to distributors, as of June 18th. Gasoline price was increased by 5,28% and Diesel, by 14,25%. Diesel had not been readjusted since May 10. Already the last rise in the price of gasoline had been on March 11th.
An Attempt to Hold the Prices for More Time
The Federal Government met on Monday (13/06) with the board of Petrobras to try to hold the fuel price readjustment, at least until the final approval of the projects that are being voted in Congress to reduce the ICMS on gasoline, diesel, and cooking gas. The state-owned company has been warning that the price gap in relation to the international market is increasing, which would force it to make readjustments in the domestic market.
Pressure for Resignation
The government is pushing for the resignation of the current president of Petrobras, José Mauro Coelho. The government wants to speed up the voting process for the nominee, Caio Paes de Andrade. However, Coelho has already warned that he will not resign. Without a resignation, the government must wait for the normal procedures for the vote on Andrade, which can take anywhere from 45 days to 60 days.
