Data gathered since 2012 by the Federal Police and obtained via LAI (Access to Information Law) indicate that, in the three years and nine months of President Jair Bolsonaro’s government, there were 7,651 new 5.56 mm caliber rifles in the country.
This means more than double the 3,739 weapons of the type registered between 2012 and 2018, during the administrations of Dilma Rousseff (PT) and Michel Temer (MDB). When considering the average of gun registrations, the increase is more than three times. During the administration of Dilma and Temer, 534 rifles were registered per year.
With Bolsonaro, there were 2,040 per year, considering the period from January 2019 to September 2022. Ammunition of this type of weapon is considered very lethal. Because they pierce armor, buildings and vehicles.
