Combating gender violence is one of the program’s five priority axes, according to the Ministry of Justice. Other points of the program are policies focused on more vulnerable places and with high levels of violence, policies focused on work and education for prisoners and former prisoners, support for victims of crime, combating structural racism and all crimes derived from it.
The program is carried out by the Union through cooperation with states, the Federal District and municipalities in programs, projects, and actions of technical and financial assistance.
Creation
Created in 2007, in the second term of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), Pronasci is still in force, but has been dehydrated in recent years.
Vehicles
Pronasci was resumed with the delivery of vehicles that will be used in the women’s police stations and in the Maria da Penha patrols. The government informed that 270 vehicles will be delivered throughout this month – and 500 until December.
Our Analysis:
According to its creators, the program builds a notion that it is by strengthening security officers and equipment, but also ensuring that the population has access to education and culture, it will be possible to reduce the violence and crime rates in the country. Experts, however, warn that the program focuses from the beginning on the issue of minorities, but does not bring an analysis of macro-violence, a problem of great proportion in Brazil. In addition to not presenting, for example, realistic public policies to combat organized crime.
