On 30 January, authorities in Macaé reported a significant drop in crime between 2023 and 2024. Homicides decreased by 51.4%, vehicle thefts by 72.6%, street robberies by 46.4%, and cargo thefts by 50%. In January 2024, homicides dropped by 83%, and no cargo thefts were recorded. Mayor Welberth Rezende attributed these results to security policies and social investments. Over the past two years, 150 drug traffickers have been arrested.

01/02/2025 – On Saturday (01/02), a man was arrested in the Lagomar neighborhood for attempting to kill his stepson. After an argument in the Jardim Franco neighborhood, he stabbed the victim in the head. The victim survived.
02/02/2025 – On Sunday (02/02), the body of a man with gunshot wounds to the head and torso was found near the RJ-178 highway. The police noted multiple injuries, including cranial lesions. The man’s identity has not been disclosed, and the civil police are investigating.
03/02/2025 – A police operation in Parque Aeroporto led to a drug seizure on Monday (03/02). No arrests were reported, but the investigation is ongoing.
03/02/2025 – On Monday (03/02), a police intelligence operation took place on Alameda Palmeiras, in the Granja dos Cavaleiros neighborhood, following reports of criminal activities linked to the local faction Third Pure Command (TCP). Officers seized large quantities of various drugs, along with precision scales and tools used for drug trafficking.
06/02/2025 – On Thursday (06/02), in the Cancela Preta neighborhood, a 33-year-old man violently assaulted his partner, leaving her with multiple injuries. The victim managed to report the attack to the police despite her condition. Shortly after, the suspect was located and arrested.
15/02/2025 – On Saturday (15/02), the Macaé city hall warned merchants about a scam involving fake health inspectors. The criminals use a phone number with the Macaé area code and pose as agents from the Vigilância Sanitária or the Secrétaria Estadual de Saúde, demanding money to avoid a fictitious inspection. Authorities remind that inspections are always conducted in person and that any official tax is paid through a Municipal Collection Document (DAM), never by bank transfer. Victims are encouraged to report these attempts to the police.
16/02/2025 – On Sunday (16/02), following an anonymous tip, the police arrested two drug traffickers on Avenida Doutor Sérgio Vieira de Mello in Lagomar, while they were selling drugs. A search led to the seizure of marijuana, cocaine, R$ 156 in cash, and a cell phone.
20/02/2025 – The Civil Police of Macaé arrested a trafficker accused of torturing teenagers in the Lagomar neighborhood on Thursday (20). The suspect was under a detention warrant for torture and association with drug trafficking. The victims were allegedly punished by a criminal faction on October 1, 2024, for vandalizing a public school.
26/02/2025 – On Wednesday (26), a man threatened to kill his ex-partner, including using a knife and a firearm. After the victim reported him, the police located and arrested him in the Aeroporto neighborhood under the Maria da Penha Law.

- After dark, avoid Glória and the Centro (downtown).
- After dark, avoid walking alone in Praia Campista and Cavaleiros.
- As risks of collateral damage and assault are high in these areas due to gang presence:
- Avoid Lagomar, Barra de Macaé, Engenho da Praia, Planalto da Ajuda, Ajuda de Cima, Ajuda de Baixo, Morro de Santana, Morro de São Jorge (in Paraíso), Fronteira, Jardim Maringá, Barra, Nova Holanda, Malvinas, Botafogo, Aroeira, Parque Aeroporto, and the surroundings of Favela da Linha (in between Visconde de Araújo and Cajueiros).
- When going to and leaving Vale Encantado, never walk, call a licensed taxi or ride-sharing App.
- Be always cautious, including in areas perceived as safe.
- Avoid any display of wealth (jewelry, cell phones), but always carry a small amount of money (R$50) to hand.
- Attention to scams that may reach you through a WhatsApp message, e-mail, SMS, or a call.
