RIO DE JANEIRO SECURITY INCIDENTS – MAY MONTHLY BULLETIN

On Monday (12/05), the 2025 Atlas of Violence reported a 14.1% rise in homicides in Rio de Janeiro between 2022 and 2023. However, Ipea attributes the increase to better data accuracy, correcting previous underreporting. Despite the official count rising to 4,292 homicides, adjusted estimates suggest a real decline in violence.

01/05/2025 – On Thursday (01), police arrested a man on the Linha Amarela, in Inhaúma, North Zone, transporting synthetic drugs, edibles, and packaging materials from São Paulo. According to the investigation, he intended to sell the drugs during the Lady Gaga concert in Copacabana on May 3 and the upcoming Marijuana March. The suspect planned to hide in the Complexo do Alemão. He was charged with drug trafficking and taken to the 21st Police Station (Bonsucesso).
