A 32-year-old Russian tourist was injured during a robbery that took place in the center of Rio on Sunday (15/10) morning. He was accompanied by his Ukrainian girlfriend, aged 29, when the two were robbed on Avenida Chile, in downtown Rio. His robbery is not an isolated incident in Rio. In 2022, 3,484 cases were registered at the Special Police Station for Tourism Support (Deat). The average is 9.5 occurrences per day. There were 2,083 thefts, 621 robberies and 295 cases of scam.

Neighborhoods with the Most Incidents
The neighborhood with the most records is in the South Zone: Copacabana is the location of one in three (1,069) crimes that had foreign tourists as victims. In second place comes Ipanema, with 517 occurrences, followed by Centro (335), Barra da Tijuca (88) and Leme (79 cases). The beach Is the Place with the Most Occurrences
In occurrences in which the location of the crime was identified, the beach has the most records (843 cases), followed by public roads (740), hotel establishments (62) and inside a taxi (30).

The British newspaper Daily Star published an article on Tuesday (17/10) that brings together a short list of cities in the world that are considered most dangerous for tourists. The brief list brings Acapulco, in Mexico; Kingston, capital of Jamaica; and Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil. The three destinations are mentioned in a survey carried out by Armormax, an armored vehicle company, carried out a year ago. The list has 22 destinations, four of which are classified as having the main risk of criminal activity. When talking about Rio, the publication highlights that the city is seen as dangerous for tourists given its criminal activity.
