A wave of break-ins and thefts has caused insecurity, fear, and disruption for business owners in downtown Santos. In addition, the attacks are causing millions in losses, as is the case of a nightclub that lost more than R$300,000 in equipment to criminals. Some of the facilities attacked are located at Avenida Visconde de São Leopoldo and Rua José Ricardo, among others.

05/01/2025 – A 28-year-old wanted member of the top leadership of a criminal organization was arrested in Praça dos Andradas, near the Municipal Bus Station, Centro, on Sunday afternoon (05/01). According to the corporation, the man was wanted for involvement in a drug trafficking association.
15/01/2025 – The Civil Police dismantled a criminal organization specializing in bank scams and arrested three men in the neighborhoods of Marapé and Campo Grande, on Wednesday morning (15/01). According to the investigations, they used the victims’ cards to withdraw money. In the properties, in addition to finding the accused, the police seized several bank cards, cell phones, notebooks, phone chips with line notes, and CPF.
15/01/2025 – A 46-year-old truck driver was robbed at gunpoint by two men on a motorcycle while loading and unloading products for the Fort Atacadista market, on Avenida Doutor Haroldo de Camargo, in the Areia Branca neighborhood, in the Northwest Zone of Santos. The truck driver had two cell phones stolen, as well as personal documents and the vehicle. The incident occurred at 06h00 on Wednesday (15).
17/01/2025 – A 36-year-old man stole items from two stores located on Rua João Pessoa, in downtown Santos, a region that has been affected by this type of crime. The incident took place on the morning of last Tuesday (14). He was later arrested.
18/01/2025 – A 20-year-old man stole a ride-sharing driver’s car and was chased by a Military Police (PM) vehicle, in Santa Maria neighborhood, in the Northwest Zone of Santos. The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday (18/01). The criminal was later arrested.
18/01/2025 – Two men robbed a store in Santos. They were later arrested in Praça Palmares, Macuco neighborhood.
25/01/2025 – Military police arrested, early Saturday morning (25/01), a 41-year-old man who is identified as one of the leaders of drug trafficking on the coast of São Paulo. Picuíra, as he is known, tried to flee from an approach and was arrested inside the bathroom of a bar in Jardim Rádio Clube, Northwest Zone of Santos. The criminal is also suspected of involvement in the death of a PM soldier that happened in 2011.
TRENDS & ADVICE
- Be cautious when in the vicinity of Embaré, Ponto da Praia, Campo Grande, Rádio Clube, Downtown and Estuário.
- Never visit neighborhoods on the hills, such as Morro de São Bento, Jabaquara, Saboo and others.
- The waterfront has many incidents of opportunistic thefts, never display wealth and avoid walks there during the night.
- Residences in the of Pompeia, Gonzaga, Boqueirão, Embaré, Aparecida, Estuário and Ponta da Praia are frequently targeted by thieves. Make sure your building is well protected.
- Be cautious at all times, including in areas perceived as safe.
- Avoid any display of wealth (jewelry, mobile phones), but always carry a small amount of money (R$50) to hand over to muggers if attacked.
- In case of robbery: cooperate, do not try to run after the assailant as they might be armed or resort to violence.
- In case of kidnapping:
- Cooperate in order to mitigate the risk of violence, and do not lie or provide false information to your kidnappers.
- Bear in mind that the vast majority of kidnappings are financially motivated, and that negotiation may be lengthy.
