01/05/2022 – The Municipal Civil Guard (GCM) arrested two criminals for robbery. The victims of the bandits – a couple of tourists from Mato Grosso – had their cell phones and rings taken by two criminals on bikes on Avenida Bartolomeu de Gusmão, in the neighborhood of Aparecida. There was persecution. A firearm was seized.

02/05/2022 – A gang set fire to a lottery house during a robbery on Avenida Nossa Senhora de Fátima, in Caneleira. The criminals managed to escape. According to the Military Police, the owner reported that five criminals arrived announcing the robbery, one was carrying a firearm, and another had a plastic gallon, with a liquid that appeared to be gasoline. During the action, criminals threw the liquid on the windows and counters, and set fire to the floor. Criminals stole cell phones from two customers and fled without taking the store’s money.
06/05/2022 – A Santos resident fell for a scam and lost R$ 40,000. The 28-year-old foreign trade analyst said that a criminal posed as a Nubank employee and informed him that his card had been cloned. By telephone, the victim was guided to follow some steps, such as tests, to end the invasion, and made loans and transactions via PIX. The Public Security Secretariat of the State of São Paulo (SSP-SP) informed that the case was registered as a scam.
09/05/2022 – A man was arrested after stealing parts from a building on the José Menino beach’s pathway. The thief would have removed aluminum bars from the gate and was found by a team from the Municipal Civil Guard (GCM). The arrest took place while guards were on patrol in the area.
16/05/2022 – A 29-year-old man, member of a criminal organization that steals cargo from trains in Baixada Santista, was arrested. He was on the run from justice. The action was part of Operation Baixada Segura carried out by the Civil Police in all cities of Baixada Santista. In all, ten people were arrested. Officers also located 20 tons of soybeans stolen from trains, as well as 411 pins of synthetic marijuana, the drug K9.
17/05/2022 – The Federal Police (PF) seized more than a ton of cocaine in the Port of Santos. The drug was found in a container with metal blades. According to the PF, the final destination of the drug was the Port of Antwerp, in Belgium. The seizure had the support of the Federal Revenue Service.
21/05/2022 – The branch of the Brazilian Credit Cooperative System (Sicoob), located on Avenida Conselheiro Nébias, in the Boqueirão neighborhood, was robbed. When the criminals tried to enter the bank, the alarm went off and the police were called. When officers arrived at the scene, one of the entry glass doors was broken. There was no one else. On the top floor, where there is a safe, officers found it destroyed and thrown to the ground. In testimony, the branch manager was unable to specify the amount stolen.
23/05/2022 – A 32-year-old man was arrested after stealing bicycles from the garage of a building on Rua Guedes Coelho, in the Encruzilhada neighborhood. In the security camera footage, it is possible to see three men stealing the bikes. One of them jumped over the garage wall and ‘passed’ the vehicles to the two accomplices. He would have used pliers to cut the padlocks. The criminal was chased by a Military Police team and even jumped into one of the city’s canals to hide. According to the Public Security Secretariat of the State of São Paulo (SSP-SP), three criminals participated in the theft, but two fled. In total, four bicycles were stolen.
30/05/2022 – A 17-year-old teenager was arrested for drug trafficking near the Channel 2 kiosks, in the Gonzaga neighborhood. Officers from the Operational Control Center (CCO) were monitoring the young man, suspected of selling narcotics in that region. In the images, it was possible to see the teenager passing on substances to some users. With the identification of the teenager, agents of the Municipal Guard went to the scene and managed to arrest him. During the approach, money, cocaine, and marijuana were found with him.
31/05/2022 – A post office van was stolen by two armed men near the road to Capela, in the Rádio Clube district. The bandits surrounded the driver and took the vehicle. Military Police vehicles began patrolling the region. One of the officers located the post office car abandoned on Rua Dr. Aniz Tranjan.
TRENDS & ADVICE
- Be cautious when in the vicinity of Embaré, Ponto da Praia, Campo Grande, Rádio Clube, Downtown and Estuário.
- Never visit neighborhoods on the hills, such as Morro de São Bento, Jabaquara, Saboo and others.
- The waterfront has many incidents of opportunistic thefts, never display wealth and avoid walks there during the night.
- Residences in the of Pompeia, Gonzaga, Boqueirão, Embaré, Aparecida, Estuário and Ponta da Praia are frequently targeted by thieves. Make sure your building is well protected.
- Be cautious at all times, including in areas perceived as safe.
- Avoid any display of wealth (jewelry, mobile phones), but always carry a small amount of money (R$50) to hand over to muggers if attacked.
- In case of robbery: cooperate, do not try to run after the assailant as they might be armed or resort to violence.
- In case of kidnapping:
- Cooperate in order to mitigate the risk of violence, and do not lie or provide false information to your kidnappers.
- Bear in mind that the vast majority of kidnappings are financially motivated, and that negotiation may be lengthy.
