02/09/2026 – On Wednesday (2), local firefighters recovered the partially submerged body of an unidentified man from a canal on Avenida Campos Sales in the Vila Nova neighborhood. Responding to a call at 4:05 AM, emergency personnel extracted the victim, who was already exhibiting rigor mortis. The Civil Police registered the incident as a suspicious death at the Central de Polícia Judiciária (CPJ) of Santos and launched an investigation to determine the circumstances and cause of death.
04/09/2026 – On Friday (4), officers from the 3rd Police District executed a search warrant at a residence on Rua Otávio Correia in the Estuário neighborhood, targeting a serial commercial burglary suspect. Investigation into multiple break-ins led police to the 30-year-old suspect with prior commercial theft records from 2015, 2019, and 2020. During the search, officers seized 62 pieces of clothing, a sweater matching security footage, a mobile phone, and nine grams of cocaine; police took the suspect to the 3rd Police District, where he was formally indicted before being released due to the lack of a flagrant arrest.

05/09/2026 – On Saturday (5), Military Police officers apprehended a 42-year-old fugitive during a routine patrol on Rua Amador Bueno, in downtown Santos. Agents intercepted the individual after observing him attempt to conceal his face upon noticing the approaching police unit. A system background check revealed an outstanding arrest warrant issued by the Specialized Court for Domestic and Family Violence Against Women for bodily injury.
07/09/2026 – On Monday (7), Military Police officers responded to reports of gunshots fired inside a commercial establishment in downtown Santos. During a search of the premises, officers inspected a vehicle parked inside the business and discovered a .38-caliber revolver with five intact rounds hidden under the front seat, along with an additional 28 rounds, seizing 33 rounds of ammunition in total. Police arrested a suspect at the scene and transferred him to the Central Police Judiciary (CPJ), where he remains in custody at the disposal of the courts.
08/09/2026 – On Tuesday (8) two men aged 23 and 31 stole copper wiring and an electrical distribution box from the Outeiro de Santa Catarina tourist site in the Historic Center of Santos. Real-time surveillance cameras at the Operational Control Center captured the suspects removing the materials with burglary tools, with one suspect stationed on the roof while the other pulled the wiring. Santos Municipal Guards (GCM) dispatched to the scene intercepted one suspect on site and apprehended the second following a brief foot pursuit toward Rua Braz Cubas, booking both men at the Santos Central Police Station for aggravated theft.
09/09/2026 – On Wednesday (9), Civil Police launched “Operation Bogotá”, executing 11 search-and-seizure warrants and one temporary arrest warrant across the São Paulo State to break up a transnational loan sharking and money laundering syndicate run by Colombian nationals. The organization moved R$ 52.5 million through high-interest informal loans enforced through threats and violence. During the raid, officers in Santos arrested a suspect who had previously stalked and photographed a local judge and his family in intimidation efforts after the magistrate issued asset-freezing orders against the cartel. This action builds on an ongoing investigation begun in May 2026 targeting 41 operatives, including financial branch members in Campinas and two high-level fugitives recently captured in Colombia via Interpol Red Notices.
16/09/2026 – On Wednesday (16), a 38-year-old man chased a woman walking to work on República do Equador Street in Ponta da Praia, and attempted to snatch her backpack containing cash, electronics, and personal documents. When the victim resisted, the suspect threatened her with a 15-centimeter pointed iron bar, prompting nearby construction workers to intervene, disarm him, and subdue him until Municipal Civil Guard (GCM) officers arrived. Responding motorcycle patrol agents seized the weapon, rescued the victim, and arrested the suspect on charges of attempted aggravated robbery, transferring him to the 3rd Police District.
18/09/2026 – On Friday (18), around 21:45, a 51-year-old man was fatally stabbed in the abdomen as he left his apartment to walk his dog at the BNH housing complex in the Aparecida neighborhood. A witness reported that the 49-year-old suspect approached the victim and said “I told you I was going to get you” before launching the knife attack and fleeing the scene. SAMU paramedics transported the victim to Santa Casa de Santos, where he succumbed to his injuries, while Military Police officers located and seized the murder weapon; civil police at the Santos Central Judicial Police (CPJ) registered the case as homicide and are tracking the identified suspect.
22/09/2026 – On Tuesday (22), the Public Labor Prosecutor’s Office (MPT) opened an investigation into a case of slave-like labor involving an 83-year-old domestic worker who performed unpaid labor in the Gonzaga neighborhood for 53 years without contract formalization or wages. After being abruptly dismissed in March 2025 showing signs of severe malnutrition, the worker filed suit; the Regional Labor Court of the 2nd Region (TRT-2) ruled against the employer family, striking down claims of a mere “family relationship,” waiving standard 5-year labor claim statutes, and ordering BRL200.000 in damages covering the entire 1972–2025 service period. 24/09/2026 – On Thursday (24), a 49-year-old suspect surrendered to Civil Police at the Central Judicial Police (CPJ) in downtown Santos, execution of an outstanding temporary arrest warrant for homicide. The arrest stems from a September 18 incident at the Marechal Humberto de Alencar Castelo Branco housing complex (BNH) in the Aparecida neighborhood, where the suspect fatally stabbed a 51-year-old neighbor in the abdomen as the victim walked his dog. Captured on surveillance video, the attacker fled the scene while SAMU paramedics transported the victim to Santa Casa de Santos, where he succumbed to his injuries; the weapon was seized, and the suspect remains held pending a custody hearing.
TRENDS & ADVICE
- Be cautious when in the vicinity of Embaré, Ponta da Praia, Campo Grande, Rádio Clube, Downtown, and Estuário.
- Never visit neighborhoods on the hills, such as Morro de São Bento, Jabaquara, Saboo, and others, since they are gang-controlled zones where shootouts occur frequently.
- Avoid passing near the VLT tunnel, in José Menino, as many drug users and homeless people stay there, especially next to the walls of the Clube dos Ingleses.
- The waterfront has many incidents of thefts and robberies (snatch and run), never display wealth, and avoid walking there during the night.
- During the Summer, risks increase, due to the bigger number of beachgoers.
- Residences in the neighborhoods of Pompeia, Gonzaga, Boqueirão, Embaré, Aparecida, Estuário, and Ponta da Praia are frequently targeted by thieves who look for bikes and items in the common areas.
- Make sure your building is well protected, with a 24/7 doorperson.
- Be cautious at all times, including in areas perceived as safe.
- Always carry a small amount of money (R$50) to hand over to muggers if attacked.
- In case of robbery: cooperate, do not try to run after the assailant, as they might be armed or resort to violence.
- In case of kidnapping:
- Cooperate in order to mitigate the risk of violence, and do not lie or provide false information to your kidnappers.
- Bear in mind that the vast majority of kidnappings are financially motivated, and nowadays they tend to be quick and focused on forcing the victims to transfer money using their cell phones.
- Attention to scams that may reach you through a WhatsApp message, e-mail, SMS, or a call.
