The number of children and adolescents living on the streets has grown 12 times in the city of São Paulo in the last 10 years. According to the federal government’s Unified Registry (CadÚnico), in 2024, 3,961 children under 18 years of age live on the streets, which represents 46% of the total number of children and adolescents living on the streets in Brazil. Violence and impairment of cognitive development are some of the consequences of growing up in this environment, especially during early childhood.
