01/10/2025 – Drug Trafficking Leader from Paraíba Arrested After Fleeing State. Joalison Bruno Napoleão da Silva, known as “Novinho”, a leader of the Nova Al Qaeda criminal faction from Paraíba, was arrested in Angra dos Reis. He had fled to Rio de Janeiro’s Costa Verde after murdering a fellow faction member named Luiz Antônio in February 2025.
06/10/2025 – Two Men Found Dead with Torture Signs in Dense Forest. Two men, aged 29 and 45, were found dead with signs of torture in a dense forest area in the Sertãozinho do Frade locality. The discovery occurred on Sunday night (October 5) when Military Police were conducting an operation in the region. Two men on a motorcycle approached the officers, requesting help to locate the bodies of missing relatives, reporting that the victims were in a hard-to-access area. The crime’s motivation remains unknown.

08/10/2025 – Federal Police Arrests Man for Child Sexual Abuse Material. Federal Police arrested a 42-year-old man in flagrante delicto in the Parque Mambucaba neighborhood for storing child sexual abuse material. This arrest was part of Operation Proteção Integral III, a national initiative to combat child and adolescent sexual abuse, primarily crimes committed via internet. The operation involved approximately 900 agents participating in what is considered one of Brazil’s largest operations against this type of crime. In Rio de Janeiro state, 9 search and seizure warrants were executed, with 2 in Angra dos Reis resulting in one arrest. Nationally, the operation mobilized 617 federal police officers and 273 civil police officers, executing 182 search and seizure warrants and resulting in 37 flagrante arrests, plus two minor apprehensions and two victim rescues.
08/10/2025 – Worker Arrested for Stealing 50kg of Copper Cables from Shipyard. Civil Police arrested in flagrante delicto a man suspected of stealing approximately 50 kilograms of copper cables from a shipyard located in the Jacuecanga neighborhood. The suspect was a subcontracted employee of an engineering company who took advantage of his access to the shipyard premises to gradually steal 70mm copper cables used in welding processes. During investigations, agents identified where the stolen material was being discarded and found the cables already cut and partially destroyed in an attempt to hinder identification. Police indicate there is evidence that the copper was being stripped and subsequently exchanged for narcotics. The man was arrested in flagrante at the location and taken to Angra dos Reis police station. Investigations continue to identify possible receivers and other crime participants.
16/10/2025 – A 67-year-old man was arrested in flagrante for illegal possession of a firearm and threatening a 58-year-old woman. The incident involved the man chasing the woman armed with a revolver in a rural area. Police seized the weapon and ammunition from under the suspect’s pillow. The suspect had several prior records. The case is registered at the Specialized Women’s Police Station (Deam) in Angra dos Reis.
17/10/2025 – On Friday (17), a 44-year-old shopkeeper from Campo Belo was stabbed multiple times while sleeping at his home. The attack was carried out by his daughter’s 22-year-old ex-boyfriend, who allegedly climbed into the house and struck the victim in the abdomen and chest before fleeing. A neighbor rescued the wounded man, who was taken to the Japuíba Municipal Hospital in critical condition. The attacker, already under a restraining order, was later arrested, and police are investigating the motive for the assault.
20/10/2025 – On Monday (20), police officers from the 33rd BPM’s intelligence unit (P2) conducted an operation at Morro da Carioca, after reports that members of the Comando Vermelho (CV) had occupied an abandoned house to sell drugs and intimidate residents, including off-duty police officers. When agents arrived, they were met with gunfire from three suspects — two men and a woman — leading to an armed confrontation. One of the men was shot and died. The woman escaped, and the second man was arrested.
21/10/2025 – On Tuesday (21), residents of Morro da Lambicada, in Jacuecanga, reported being coerced by drug traffickers to subscribe to an internet service allegedly controlled by the local criminal group, according to an anonymous complaint. The same company had previously been involved in similar coercion in Morro do Moreno. Audio recordings from the gang’s leader — reportedly affiliated with the Comando Vermelho after leaving the TCP — threatened to cut other providers’ services and ban new contracts without his authorization. The situation has led many residents to flee the area, and local commerce has nearly collapsed.
21/10/2025 – On Tuesday (21), residents of the Belém neighborhood reported living in fear amid escalating clashes between rival factions of the Comando Vermelho (CV) and the Terceiro Comando Puro (TCP) for control of the local drug trade. According to residents, the night of October 20–21 marked the third consecutive attempt by CV members from the Banqueta area to invade the neighborhood and expel TCP traffickers.
21/10/2025 – On Tuesday (21), officers from the 33rd BPM’s intelligence unit (P2), supported by the Frade Proeis team, conducted an operation in Frade targeting a gang involved in vehicle thefts. During the raid, police arrested a 20-year-old fugitive wanted since 2023, who had recently arrived from Rio’s Penha Complex carrying a large stash of drugs. After attempting to flee, he was captured, and officers found his hidden backpack containing 1,536 packets of cocaine, 30 marijuana tablets, 1.5 kilograms of pressed marijuana, 40 ecstasy pills, and half a kilo of crack.
27/10/2025 – On Monday (27), police from the 166th DP arrested a 24-year-old man in the Bracuí community during another phase of Operation Arrasto, aimed at combating drug trafficking in Angra dos Reis. Officers spotted him carrying a radio transmitter used to alert dealers about police presence. He tried to flee but was quickly captured. The man admitted to working as a “lookout” and was already known to authorities — he had been arrested for the same offense on October 16 and released two days later after a custody hearing. Less than two weeks after his release, he was caught again and charged with drug trafficking.
28/10/2025 – On Tuesday (28), security forces launched a large-scale preventive operation in Angra dos Reis to block the entry of criminals fleeing police actions in Rio de Janeiro. Starting at 15:00, teams from various law enforcement agencies began monitoring all access routes and local communities as part of the “Cerco Integrado” operation, which will remain active indefinitely. Authorities reported that some suspects connected to drug trafficking abandoned plans to enter the city after learning of the operation. Residents expressed concern that criminal groups, especially linked to the Comando Vermelho, could attempt to relocate to Angra, recalling similar migrations that followed the installation of UPPs in Rio’s favelas in 2014.
29/10/2025 – On Wednesday (29), military police from the 33rd BPM’s intelligence unit (P2) arrested a fugitive known as “2D,” identified as the leader of drug trafficking operations in Morro do Carmo, downtown Angra. Acting on a tip, officers located and detained him in an area controlled by the Comando Vermelho faction. He was wanted for criminal association with drug trafficking and was taken to the 166th Police Station before being transferred to the Volta Redonda prison system.
TRENDS & ADVICE
- Shootouts remain the main risk facing personnel in Angra dos Reis. Several security operations related to drug trafficking are also registered every week.
- If you find yourself in the immediate vicinity of a shootout:
- lay on the ground and seek a solid cover.
- If you are in your car, the engine block is a good barrier behind which you could seek protection.
- When it is safe to do so, find the nearest building, stay away from any windows, and do not move until the gunfire has clearly ended.
- Pay attention to the sounds of shots when driving through BR-101, which has on its margins many gang-controlled zones.
- Be cautious when in the vicinity of ‘communities’, particularly: Morro da Fortaleza, Parque Belém, Sapinhatuba I, Sapinhatuba II, Sapinhatuba III, Areal, Parque Mambucaba, Japuíba, Frade, Bracuí, Morro do Santo Antônio, and Morro da Glória I and II.
- Avoid stopping on BR-101 roadside, due to cases of robberies, especially in the most isolated areas and after nightfall.
- Be careful when walking downtown as there is a risk of property crimes, thefts, and robberies.
- Attention to scams that may reach you through a WhatsApp message, e-mail, SMS, or a call.
