SÃO PAULO SECURITY INCIDENTS – 3RD BULLETIN OF APRIL

The State of São Paulo registered a record number of femicides committed in public spaces, with 109 victims murdered in the street, at work, or in commercial establishments last year. While the home remains the highest-risk location, these deaths outside the household now account for over 40% of cases, a phenomenon fueled by the rejection of female autonomy and harassment following breakups. Experts highlight improved crime classification thanks to new laws, while authorities increase protective measures such as electronic monitoring of aggressors. Despite these structural efforts to curb this escalation of misogyny, many perpetrators continue to be caught in the act during police interventions.
