01/05/2026 – On Friday (1st), Civil Police conducted “Operation Sentinela”, resulting in the arrest of five individuals and the detention of one minor across several neighborhoods. Agents dismantled a drug distribution point in Frade and later came under fire during an incursion into the Bracuí housing complex. The operation led to the seizure of various drugs (cocaine, crack, marijuana), a pistol, a 5.56 rifle magazine, and communication radios.
01/05/2026 – On Friday (1st), the Military Police captured a wanted fugitive in the Zungu neighborhood. Acting on intelligence reports, officers located the man at a construction site. He was wanted under an arrest warrant issued by the Paraíba do Sul court for theft. With an extensive criminal record including 12 prior offenses, ranging from assault and threats to domestic violence, the suspect has a remaining prison sentence of over 7 years to serve.

05/05/2026 – On Tuesday (5), civil police arrested a 29-year-old man and seized his vehicle during “Operation Estorno” in Angra dos Reis. This action, conducted jointly by the police stations of Angra (166th DP), Pavuna (39th DP), and São João de Meriti (64th DP), aimed to dismantle a ring that trapped retirees at ATMs by offering fake assistance to steal their banking data. In Angra, this scheme allowed the criminals to take out fraudulent loans and drain the accounts of three identified victims, resulting in a total loss exceeding R$ 100,000.
11/05/2026 – A 43-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man were arrested for drug trafficking on Monday night (11) in Angra dos Reis (RJ). The case happened in the Campo Belo neighborhood during a Civil Police operation. The investigations began after agents received complaints from local workers, saying they were intimidated by suspects in the Praça da Paz region.
12/05/2026 – A man was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday (12) for transporting more than 2,600 cocaine capsules on BR-101, in Angra dos Reis (RJ). The arrest took place near Garatucaia, during a joint action between military police and teams from the Federal Highway Police.
13/05/2026 – Two teenagers, aged 15 and 17, were arrested on suspicion of involvement in drug trafficking this Wednesday afternoon (13), in Angra dos Reis (RJ). The action took place in Morro da Fortaleza, during Operation Sentinel. Traffickers sold drugs in Beco da Espanhola, which gives access to Largo da Fortaleza.
16/05/2026 – Two men, aged 27 and 29, were arrested with more than 3 kg of drugs on Saturday (16) in Angra dos Reis (RJ). The incident took place in an alley on Avenida Bougavile, in the Campo Belo neighborhood. In the action, 1,564 kg of marijuana (163 portions), 1,195 kg of cocaine (249 pins), 208 grams of hashish (26 bags), and 148 grams of crack (296 stones) were seized. In addition to 18 bottles of loló, three bottles of perfume, two radio communicators and R$50 in cash.
16/05/2026 – Two women, aged 22 and 26, were arrested on suspicion of growing marijuana in a clandestine greenhouse on Saturday night (16) in Angra dos Reis (RJ). The incident took place in a forested area on Estrada da Caputera, in the Caputera neighborhood. Production would be destined for a criminal faction in the region.
18/05/2026 – On Monday afternoon (18), Civil Police officers arrested two women, aged 24 and 28, during “Operation Sentinela” at Morro da Fortaleza. Following an intelligence probe into the Comando Vermelho (CV) drug trafficking network, investigators discovered that the suspects were using a scooter’s under-seat storage trunk as a mobile drug depot to evade police detection. During the undercover sting, officers seized 34 vials of cocaine, 16 packets of marijuana, cash, and the vehicle. The investigation highlighted a growing trend of women taking over operational roles within the local faction after recent police crackdowns. Both suspects confessed to dealing and remain in custody.
18/05/2026 – On Monday (18), Military Police officers arrested a man and detained a teenager during an anti-drug operation in the Bracuí neighborhood. The suspects were intercepted during a routine patrol after displaying suspicious behavior. Upon searching the site, officers dismantled a local distribution point, seizing 256 capsules of cocaine, 145 crack rocks, 139 packets of marijuana, 27 ecstasy pills, 17 bottles of poppers, a communication radio, and R$ 1,303 in cash.
19/05/2026 – On Tuesday (19), a fugitive connected to organized crime was arrested by the Military Police. The suspect, identified as an influential member of a criminal faction operating in the Baixada Fluminense region, was being monitored by security forces. During the interception, officers seized a significant amount of illicit substances, including skunk marijuana and cocaine.
19/05/2026 – On Tuesday (19), a 42-year-old fugitive from Bahia was arrested by Civil Police officers in the Sapinhatuba 1 neighborhood. The arrest, executed along the Rio-Santos Highway, was part of “Operation Olho de Águia” (Operation Eagle Eye), which targets out-of-state criminals hiding in the Costa Verde region. Intelligence tracking revealed the suspect was working for a local company. Wanted on a definitive arrest warrant valid until 2046, the man had been sentenced to 11 years in prison for drug trafficking and organized crime in Salvador (BA). Furthermore, Bahia authorities state that his criminal faction is under investigation for at least nine homicides in Salvador’s Cidade Nova neighborhood.
19/05/2026 – On Tuesday afternoon (19), Military Police officers dismantled a clandestine drug processing and storage facility linked to the Comando Vermelho (CV) faction in the Banqueta neighborhood. During the raid, officers seized 1,002 vials of cocaine, 82 strips of marijuana, 78 crack rocks, and 15 bottles of poppers, resulting in an estimated financial loss of R$ 26,600 for the trafficking network. Additionally, the police recovered a tactical “Roni kit” (used to convert handguns into carbines), a replica firearm, 5,000 empty drug vials, a precision scale, and five communication radios.
20/05/2026 – On Wednesday (20), Military Police officers arrested two Argentine nationals for circulating counterfeit U.S. currency in Angra dos Reis and Paraty. The operation began when a hostel owner in central Angra alerted patrolling officers that the suspects had paid with fake dollar bills and had just left in a taxi toward Jacuecanga. Police intercepted the duo at a highway gas station, where one suspect unsuccessfully tried to flush a fake $100 bill down the toilet. While on-site, a taxi driver arrived reporting he had also been scammed by the pair. The suspects were taken to the Federal Police Station in Parque das Palmeiras, where authorities uncovered an additional victim—an innkeeper from neighboring Paraty who had also received a counterfeit $100 bill.
24/05/2026 – On Sunday afternoon (24), Military Police seized narcotics and three radio transmitters in the Morro da Glória 2 community during an anti-trafficking operation. A suspect fled through an alley upon seeing the officers, leaving behind a bag packed with marijuana, cocaine, and inhalants. The seized items were taken to the 166th Police Precinct, dealing an estimated R$ 4,820 financial blow to the Comando Vermelho (CV) criminal faction.
25/05/2026 – On Monday morning (25), a 29-year-old drug trafficker was killed in a shootout with Military Police in the Bracuí neighborhood. The suspect, a Comando Vermelho member with nine prior offenses and an active arrest warrant for attacking police vehicles, opened fire on officers tracking him before being mortally wounded. Police seized an assault rifle and narcotics, while local gangs retaliated by forcing a brief commercial lockdown in the area.
25/05/2026 – An extortion case involving loan sharks shook the Village neighborhood in Jacuecanga, on Monday (25), when two suspects were caught on camera violently assaulting a resident near his home. The confrontation escalated into physical violence as the attackers punched and shoved the victim over an apparent debt dispute before his family intervened, forcing the criminals to flee. Military Police tracked the getaway vehicle to neighboring Mangaratiba, capturing one of the loan sharks, while the Civil Police continued searching for the second suspect.
26/05/2026 – On Tuesday (26), Campo Belo residents pleaded for sustained 33rd BPM military police patrols on Bougainville Avenue to curb 24h-open-air Comando Vermelho drug trafficking. The gang’s main distribution point, enclosed by a green gate installed by criminals, operates less than 150 meters from a municipal daycare, causing severe noise and constant fear. Locals report the ongoing stress recently triggered a fatal hypertension crisis in an elderly resident.
27/05/2026 – On Wednesday (27), a fugitive suspected of international drug trafficking and money laundering was arrested in the Japuíba neighborhood. The suspect was linked to a criminal faction where he managed the maritime logistics for smuggling cocaine, a network previously exposed when a shipment was seized in Cape Verde, Africa. He had been hiding for several months operating a local business as a front before being caught.
TRENDS & ADVICE
- Shootouts remain the main risk facing personnel in Angra dos Reis. Several security operations related to drug trafficking are also registered every week.
- If you find yourself in the immediate vicinity of a shootout:
- lay on the ground and seek a solid cover.
- If you are in your car, the engine block is a good barrier behind which you could seek protection.
- When it is safe to do so, find the nearest building, stay away from any windows, and do not move until the gunfire has clearly ended.
- Pay attention to the sounds of shots when driving through BR-101, which has on its margins many gang-controlled zones.
- Be cautious when in the vicinity of ‘communities’, particularly: Morro da Fortaleza, Parque Belém, Sapinhatuba I, Sapinhatuba II, Sapinhatuba III, Areal, Parque Mambucaba, Japuíba, Frade, Bracuí, Morro do Santo Antônio, and Morro da Glória I and II.
- Avoid stopping on BR-101 roadside, due to cases of robberies, especially in the most isolated areas and after nightfall.
- Be careful when walking downtown as there is a risk of property crimes, thefts, and robberies.
- Attention to scams that may reach you through a WhatsApp message, e-mail, SMS, or a call.
