02/08/2026 – On Sunday (2), Military Police officers arrested a 20-year-old man and seized 1,984 cocaine pins valued at R$ 58,700 in the Frade neighborhood. Acting on an anonymous tip, agents located the suspect at a residence on Rua Isidoro de Castro, where the drugs labeled with the Comando Vermelho (CV) faction insignia were hidden in nearby brush. The suspect and the seized narcotics were taken to the 166th Police District (166ª DP), where he was formally charged with drug trafficking.
04/08/2026 – Civil Police arrested a woman, on Tuesday (4), for extortion after demanding money from the mother of a former romantic partner under threat of exposure. Although the suspect claimed the payments were “voluntary aid,” investigators at the 166th Police District confirmed a pattern of repeat offenses, revealing previous police records from 2020, 2021, and 2023 involving extortion, threats, assault, and false accusations against former partners.

04/08/2026 – On Tuesday (4), Civil Police officers from the 166th Police District arrested a 21-year-old lookout for the Comando Vermelho (CV) faction in Morro da Glória 2. Caught operating a two-way radio at the entrance of the community, he worked 12-hour shifts to warn drug traffickers of approaching law enforcement. Police seized the walkie-talkie and a mobile phone during the operation. Despite his age, the suspect had been previously arrested by the same police team over a year ago in the Bracuí neighborhood for drug trafficking and association. He was booked in flagrante delicto and remains in custody as investigations continue.
04/08/2026 – On Tuesday (4), Military Police officers arrested a 27-year-old man and recovered buried narcotics in the Sapinhatuba III neighborhood. After being intercepted during a routine patrol with 52 wrappers of marijuana in a plastic bag, the suspect admitted his involvement in drug trafficking and directed officers to a nearby forested area. There, police dug up a buried bucket containing an additional 322 cocaine capsules and 140 marijuana wrappers. The suspect and all seized materials were taken to the local police station, where he was formally charged with drug trafficking.
07/08/2026 – On Friday (7), in Downtown Angra, civil police from the 166th Police District executed a preventive arrest warrant against a 21-year-old suspect wanted for aggravated homicide. The arrest stems from an incident on January 18 on Rua Napoleão Aires in the Campo Belo neighborhood, where the suspect allegedly retrieved a firearm following an argument and shot a victim twice at point-blank range.
09/08/2026 – On Sunday (9), in the Parque Belém neighborhood, Military Police arrested a 28-year-old man for physically assaulting his wife and son inside their family home. The 28-year-old victim informed responding officers that her husband, under the influence of alcohol and drugs, punched both her and their child before fleeing the residence. Police launched immediate searches in the area, apprehended the suspect, and took him to the Police District, where he remains in custody, charged with bodily injury.
10/08/2026 – On Monday (10), in the Japuíba neighborhood, civil police arrested a 38-year-old fugitive wanted in Rio Grande do Norte for active membership in the “Sindicato do Crime” (SDC) criminal organization. Captured in a joint operation by the 166th Police District and the Financial Crimes Division (DELFAZ), the suspect had been living discreetly in Angra dos Reis for three months, working at a greengrocer to evade an outstanding arrest warrant. Following intelligence tracking supported by municipal digital surveillance, officers apprehended the man without resistance and transferred him to the state prison system.
10/08/2026 – On Monday (10), in the Frade neighborhood, a joint operation by the 166th Police District and Military Police Intelligence captured a 20-year-old suspect, identified as the second of four perpetrators involved in a Comando Vermelho (CV) crime court murder. The investigation links the suspect to the July 11 execution of a victim in Santa Rita do Bracuí over an internal faction dispute regarding a prior homicide. Located at a residence on Rua Portugal, the suspect attempted to flee into a backyard room before being apprehended with 103 vials of cocaine, adding drug trafficking and association charges to his existing homicide indictment.
16/08/2026 – On Sunday (16), a 25-year-old man was arrested in flagrante, after breaking into his 30-year-old ex-partner’s home in the Morro da Boa Vista neighborhood. Military Police responded to the victim’s call regarding the intrusion and subsequently discovered an active arrest warrant against the suspect upon running his details through the database. Although the victim chose not to press charges for the home invasion, the suspect remained in custody under the Maria da Penha Law for violating an urgent protective order, as well as for his outstanding judicial warrant.
17/08/2026 – On Monday (17), Military Police officers arrested a suspect during an operation targeting drug trafficking in the Parque Mambucaba neighborhood. Acting on tips regarding an active arrest warrant and alleged involvement in an armed home invasion, officers tracked down the individual, who attempted to flee and engaged in a physical struggle with an officer, leaving both injured. After receiving medical treatment at a local hospital for injuries sustained during the brawl, the suspect was taken into custody at the 166th Police District, where he remains held on charges of robbery and drug trafficking.
17/08/2026 – On Monday (17), Military Police officers from the 33rd Battalion arrested a 19-year-old suspect during a drug enforcement operation in the Manguinho area, in the Japuíba neighborhood. Following an anonymous tip, officers pursued three individuals attempting to flee through an alleyway into a mangrove area, ultimately locating one suspect with the help of local witnesses. Police seized 77 marijuana slabs, 9 cocaine capsules, a radio transmitter, charging bases, and a cell phone at the scene, after which the suspect was booked for drug trafficking at the 166th Police District and subsequently released to await trial.
18/08/2026 – On Tuesday (18), Military Police officers from the 33rd Battalion arrested a 25-year-old fugitive in the Japuíba neighborhood. Acting on an anonymous tip indicating that a wanted suspect was residing at the location, officers verified an active arrest warrant against him for drug trafficking and criminal association, after which he was taken into custody and transported to the local police station for formal proceedings.
19/08/2026 – On Wednesday (19), an armed gang riding jet skis and motorized boats targeted a pleasure craft near Praia do Laboratório/Água Quente, in the Piraquera neighborhood, holding passengers (including a 6-month-old infant) hostage for 90 minutes while stealing jewelry, phones, and extorting over R$ 50,000 via PIX transfers. Following a joint tracking operation by the 166th DP, the 33rd BPM, and local security agents, authorities dismantled the pirate ring on Wednesday (21), arresting five individuals. Among those captured were the operational leader, the jet ski pilot, the weapon stash handler, the financial PIX operator, and a 58-year-old gold shop employee charged with qualified fencing after purchasing stolen wedding rings.
24/08/2026 – On Monday (24), a 24-year-old suspect was arrested during a Military Police intelligence operation in the Morro do Carioca neighborhood in central Angra dos Reis. After obtaining permission from the suspect’s father to search the residence, officers interrogated the young man, who confessed to his involvement in local drug distribution and revealed contraband hidden inside a sofa. Police seized a handgun, 14 rounds of ammunition, 10 pins of cocaine, two bags of marijuana, and two cell phones. The suspect was booked at the local police station for illegal possession of a restricted firearm and drug association.
28/08/2026 – On Friday (28), the Military Police inaugurated a new Detachment of Ostensive Policing (DPO) in the Lambicada neighborhood (Jacuecanga), expanding the 33rd Battalion’s footprint in the city. Headed by Lieutenant Colonel Belitardo, the unit on Rua Sebastião Vieira Botelho will serve as an operational base for preventive patrols, organized crime suppression, and faster emergency response times across the Costa Verde region.
TRENDS & ADVICE
- Shootouts remain the main risk facing personnel in Angra dos Reis. Several security operations related to drug trafficking are also registered every week.
- If you find yourself in the immediate vicinity of a shootout:
- lay on the ground and seek a solid cover.
- If you are in your car, the engine block is a good barrier behind which you could seek protection.
- When it is safe to do so, find the nearest building, stay away from any windows, and do not move until the gunfire has clearly ended.
- Pay attention to the sounds of shots when driving through BR-101, which has on its margins many gang-controlled zones.
- Be cautious when in the vicinity of ‘communities’, particularly: Morro da Fortaleza, Parque Belém, Sapinhatuba I, Sapinhatuba II, Sapinhatuba III, Areal, Parque Mambucaba, Japuíba, Frade, Bracuí, Morro do Santo Antônio, and Morro da Glória I and II.
- Avoid stopping on BR-101 roadside, due to cases of robberies, especially in the most isolated areas and after nightfall.
- Be careful when walking downtown as there is a risk of property crimes, thefts, and robberies.
- Attention to scams that may reach you through a WhatsApp message, e-mail, SMS, or a call.
