RIO: WRONGLY ACCUSED OF THEFT, CYCLIST BEATEN TO DEATH IN COPACABANA

Rio’s Civil Police are investigating the death of a 37-year-old man who was beaten in Copacabana, in Rio de Janeiro’s South Zone. According to his family, Cláudio Rafael Landeiro died on Wednesday (12/08) after being mistaken for a thief the previous night on Barata Ribeiro Street. Statements given to the police indicate that Cláudio, who lived in Botafogo, was riding a bicycle when he was approached by a restaurant security guard. The guard allegedly suspected that the bicycle had been stolen.
