07/03/2025 – The Federal Highway Police arrested on Friday (07) in the Bracuí neighborhood, in Angra dos Reis (RJ), two suspects of committing a robbery. The action took place at KM 504 of the Rio-Santos Highway.
07/03/2025 – There was a confrontation between police officers and criminals on Friday afternoon (07), in Morro da Caixa D’Água, in Angra dos Reis, on the Costa Verde, after an operation carried out by military police officers from the 33rd BPM. The supposed head of drug trafficking in the Frade neighborhood, was shot, did not survive his injuries and died. Two others hit by the gunfire were rescued and arrested. Several drugs were seized.

10/03/2025 – The Civil Police arrested four people for drug trafficking at Morro da Fortaleza, in downtown Angra dos Reis, on Monday (10/03). Among them were a couple identified as local drug trade managers and two men, including a motorcycle taxi driver. The suspects were caught by undercover officers as they attempted to flee with narcotics.
10/03/2025 – A 49-year-old man was arrested on Monday (10/03), on Praia de Palmas, in Ilha Grande, for violently assaulting his partner out of jealousy, in the presence of their children. The victim had filed a complaint two days earlier. The suspect attempted to flee but was arrested after a search.
12/03/2025 – The Civil Police arrested six people for drug trafficking during Operation Sufoco in the Bracuí neighborhood, on Wednesday (12/03). In three days, ten suspects were apprehended, and drugs, cash, and communication equipment were seized.
13/03/2025 – A 46-year-old man was arrested in Angra dos Reis on Thursday (13/03) in a joint operation with the Minas Gerais police for the femicide of his former mother-in-law and the attempted murder of his ex-wife and ex-sister-in-law in 2006 in Araçuaí, Minas Gerais. He was arrested in the Nova Angra neighborhood, where he lived with a new wife.
18/03/2025 – The Military Police arrested two young men, aged 23 and 25, for drug trafficking in the Campo Belo neighborhood of Angra dos Reis on Tuesday (18/03). Officers responded to reports of criminal activity and found the suspects in an area known for drug sales. The two attempted to flee into a wooded area but were arrested. Authorities seized cocaine, crack, marijuana, inhalants, cash, and radio communication equipment.
20/03/2025 – On Thursday (20/03), two foreigners were arrested aboard a cruise ship anchored in the bay of Angra dos Reis for attempting to smuggle 47 kg of cocaine to Serbia. The drugs were hidden in a support boat, and the suspects—one Serbian (33) and one Montenegrin (31)—planned to retrieve them at night using crew uniforms to avoid suspicion.
21/03/2025 – A joint operation on Friday (21/03), led to the arrest of a 28-year-old fugitive wanted in Bahia for robbery, drug trafficking, and the attempted murder of a police sergeant in 2016. Captured in Parque Mambucaba, Angra dos Reis, he had fled Bahia after the attack and was living under surveillance. He is a member of the criminal organization “Bonde do Maluco” (BDM).
24/03/2025 – On Monday (24/03), two teenagers, aged 15 and 16, were detained in Morro da Glória for involvement in drug trafficking. Acting on a tip from the Disque Denúncia hotline, officers from the 33rd BPM arrived at the scene, prompting the teens to attempt an escape. Authorities seized 47 crack rocks, 108 vials of cocaine, 9 cannabis strips, a pistol, ammunition, and 2 radio transmitters.
25/03/2025 – On Tuesday (25/03), during an operation in the Frade neighborhood, officers from the 33rd BPM spotted a man acting suspiciously on Rua Jaqueira. As the police approached, he attempted to flee into a nearby residence but was quickly surrounded and apprehended. Inside his backpack, officers found cocaine. He was arrested.
TRENDS & ADVICE
- Shootouts remain the main risk facing personnel in Angra dos Reis. Several security operations related to drug trafficking are also registered every week.
- If you find yourself in the immediate vicinity of a shootout:
- lay on the ground and seek a solid cover.
- If you are in your car, the engine block is a good barrier behind which you could seek protection.
- When it is safe to do so, find the nearest building, stay away from any windows, and do not move until the gunfire has clearly ended.
- Attention to the sounds of shots when driving through BR-101, which has on its margins many gang-controlled zones.
- Be cautious when in the vicinity of ‘communities’, particularly: Downtown, Parque Belém, Sapinhatuba I, Sapinhatuba II, Sapinhatuba III, Areal, Parque Mambucaba, Japuíba, Frade, Bracuí, Morro do Santo Antônio, and Morro da Glória I and II.
- Avoid stopping on BR-101 roadside, due to cases of robberies, especially in the most isolated areas and after nightfall.
- Be careful when walking downtown as there is a risk of property crimes, thefts, and robberies.
- Attention to scams that may reach you through a WhatsApp message, e-mail, SMS, or a call.
