RIO DE JANEIRO SECURITY INCIDENTS – 4TH BULLETIN OF JUNE

22/06/2026 – On Monday morning (22), the Rio das Pedras community endured an intense escalation of gunfire as the Red Command (CV) drug cartel launched a fresh offensive to seize the territory from rival militias. Occupational troops from the 18th Military Police Battalion were ambushed and drawn into fierce gun battles during the night as cartel units pushed deep into the sector. The CV aims to annex this lucrative stronghold—which nets R$ 2 million a month in illegal extortion fees—to establish a strategic border belt around the Tijuca Forest mountain range. This mountain corridor would link their cross-city strongholds, fundamentally reshaping Rio’s underworld geography right before a Supreme Court-mandated state reoccupation plan takes effect.
