31/08/2022 – A criminal was arrested after shooting at military police in the Morro da Penha neighborhood. According to the Military Police (PM), the team was patrolling in the region, when they saw a criminal, who shot at them and tried to flee, but was arrested shortly afterwards. A 38-caliber revolver, drugs and money were found with the criminal.
06/09/2022 – A 35-year-old man was arrested in Morro da Nova Cintra. He was a member of a criminal organization that operates in the hills of Santos. He was arrested for drug trafficking and association with drug trafficking.
08/09/2022 – A 22-year-old woman died after being hit by a stray bullet during a police operation on Rua Caminho da Divisa, in the Castelo neighborhood. Three other people were injured, including a police officer. According to investigations, a team was carrying out patrol when, at around 18:30, a criminal on a bicycle fired shots at the vehicle that was approaching the community. During investigations near the location, military police officers located drugs and a firearm.
10/09/2023 – A thief was arrested trying to steal a bicycle around 13:00 in Gonzaga. The crime was caught on City Hall’s monitoring cameras and the arrest was carried out by agents from the Municipal Civil Guard (GCM). The images show the man forcing the lock of a bicycle parked in a bike rack in Praça da Independência.
14/09/2023 – An unidentified body was found inside a container at the Port of Santos. During the Federal Revenue scanning process, an image like the silhouette of a person was observed and the Federal Police (PF) were called. After the container was opened, agents confirmed that it was a human body. The ship that brought the metal box to Brazil came from the port of Tangier, in Morocco. An inquiry was opened to continue the investigation.
18/09/2022 – A young woman, aged 20, was surrounded and robbed by two men in the Boqueirão neighborhood. According to information in the police report, the student left the university at around 9:20 pm, heading to a parking lot on Rua Oswaldo Cruz. The pair approached her from behind, on a bicycle, asking for her cell phone. The victim reported that she was threatened with assault if she did not hand over her belongings.
18/09/2022 – A 42-year-old man was arrested in the Gonzaga beach after raping a teenager in the same location. The victim was a 17-year-old man and it took place near lifeguard station 3. A team from the Metropolitan Civil Guard (GCM) was patrolling Pompéia beach when they were called by residents who pointed out a man with suspicious behavior.
21/09/2022 – Two men, aged 38 and 48, were arrested by the police for two robberies that occurred in the Aparecida and Ponta da Praia neighborhoods. During the robbery, they entered the garage of the victim’s condominium and took a bicycle, a bag with three beach tennis rackets, a vacuum cleaner, and a computer monitor. The police managed to identify the two individuals who were already being investigated for committing another theft in which they stole a bicycle from the garage of a house.
TRENDS & ADVICE
- Be cautious when in the vicinity of Embaré, Ponto da Praia, Campo Grande, Rádio Clube, Downtown and Estuário.
- Never visit neighborhoods on the hills, such as Morro de São Bento, Jabaquara, Saboo and others.
- The waterfront has many incidents of opportunistic thefts, never display wealth and avoid walks there during the night.
- Residences in the of Pompeia, Gonzaga, Boqueirão, Embaré, Aparecida, Estuário and Ponta da Praia are frequently targeted by thieves. Make sure your building is well protected.
- Be cautious at all times, including in areas perceived as safe.
- Avoid any display of wealth (jewelry, mobile phones), but always carry a small amount of money (R$50) to hand over to muggers if attacked.
- In case of robbery: cooperate, do not try to run after the assailant as they might be armed or resort to violence.
- In case of kidnapping:
- Cooperate in order to mitigate the risk of violence, and do not lie or provide false information to your kidnappers.
- Bear in mind that the vast majority of kidnappings are financially motivated, and that negotiation may be lengthy.
