SÃO PAULO SECURITY INCIDENTS – 1ST BULLETIN OF MARCH

28/02/2025 – Thefts broke a record in the city of São Paulo for January, with 20,172 cases in the first month of this year. The crime increased by 7.7% compared to the 18,723 cases recorded in January 2024 and is the highest number since 2001. The data was published on Friday (28) by the Public Security Secretariat (SSP). Statistics also showed a slight increase in thefts in the state in January, which had 48,026 cases, 3.2% more than the 46,507 records in January 2024. The number is also the highest for the period since 2013. Robberies, on the other hand, fell to the lowest level in the current historical series, with 15,972 cases in the state. At the beginning of last year, 17,622 occurrences were recorded. Homicide victims in January 2025 were the lowest in the series, with 221 deaths. In the capital, the number rose, with 47 deaths, 11.9% higher than the 42 deaths in the first month of 2024. Rape reports continue to rise. There were 270 cases in the city of São Paulo and 1,286 in the state in January of this year, the highest numbers since 2018. Vehicle robberies and thefts remained at the same level in the state, with an increase of less than 1% compared to January 2024, with 2,312 cases of robbery and 7,729 thefts. In the capital, vehicle robberies were 878 and fell by 6.6% compared to the first month of 2024. On the other hand, vehicle thefts saw a small increase (1.7%), with 3,292 records in January of this year.
