SÃO PAULO SECURITY INCIDENTS – 2ND BULLETIN OF APRIL

Between 2021 and 2024, the use of synthetic cannabinoids known as K2, K4, K9, or “K drugs” surged in São Paulo, with reported intoxication cases rising from 25 to over 1,000 per year. A public health study conducted with data from the municipal and state health departments found that the primary users are brown-skinned males aged 15 to 34. These drugs act on the central nervous system with up to 100 times the potency of traditional cannabis, causing hallucinations and potentially fatal toxicity.
