RIO DE JANEIRO SECURITY INCIDENTS – 1ST BULLETIN OF JULY

26/06/2025 – On Thursday (26), authorities in Rio de Janeiro began demolishing three buildings in Rocinha used by Comando Vermelho traffickers as hideouts. During the operation, they discovered a false wall leading to a tunnel that enabled the escape of around 400 armed criminals during a police raid on May 31. The buildings, worth R$6 million, were illegally constructed in a protected area and included luxury features. The traffickers, some from Ceará, used the tunnel to flee into nearby forested areas, possibly reaching wealthy neighborhoods. The case is linked to an ongoing interstate investigation into organized crime and drug trafficking.
