In January 2026, the state of São Paulo recorded a devastating record of 27 femicides, the highest number for that month since data recording began in 2018. This surge reflects a broader upward trend in violence against women, with reports of threats and physical assaults also increasing compared to the previous year. Recent cases, including a fatal stabbing in a shopping mall and a suffocation in a motel, underscore a growing crisis that continues to break historical records across the state.
