THE NATIONAL COORDINATING COMMITTEE TO COMBAT THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC IS REVOKED

On Monday (23/05), President Jair Bolsonaro revoked the creation of the National Coordinating Committee to Combat the Covid-19 Pandemic. This committee was formed by the presidency of the Republic, the presidents of the Senate and the Federal Chamber and by an authority nominated by the National Justice Council President. The revocation takes place one day after the official end of the state of “national health emergency” (Espin) because of Covid-19, event that had been announced a month in advance. The end of the Espin, however, does not mark the end of the pandemic itself. The World Health Organization (WHO) continues to consider that the world is experiencing a Covid pandemic.

LATEST WEEKLY COVID NUMBERS

According to data released by the Health Secretaries National Council (Conass) and the Health Ministry, during the 126th (May 22nd to 28th) epidemiological week, the number of new Covid-19 confirmed cases in Brazil increased by 72,80% when compared to the 125th (May 15th to 21st) week. In terms of deaths of patients with Covid-19, a 31,55% decrease was registered while compared to the 125th week.

VACCINATION CAMPAIGN PROGRESS

According to information released by the Our World in Data webpage on Sunday (29/05), Brazil has 166,02 million people fully vaccinated or 77,58% of its total population. Brazil has approximately 212 million citizens, according to IBGE. Worldwide, 60,03% (4,73 billion) of people are fully vaccinated.
