According to data disclosed by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), after two months of deflation, the Extended Consumer Price Index 15 (IPCA-15) for October was 0.16%. In 2022, the IPCA-15 accumulates an increase of 4.80% and, in 12 months, of 6.85%.
By Economy Sector
As in the previous month, in October, three of the nine IPCA-15 groups had a price drop: Transport (-0.64%), Communication (-0.42%) and Household articles (-0.35%). The increases were as follows: Clothing (1.43%), Health (0.80%), Personal Expenses (0.57%), Housing (0.28%), Food & Beverages (0.21%) and Education (0.19%). Economists highlighted that food inflation rose from -0.47% in September to +0.21% in October, confirming society’s perception of inflationary resilience, which mainly affects the poorest.
Results for Rio
In the Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro (RMRJ), the IPCA-15 increased by 0.20% in October, 6.04% in 2022 and 7.99% in the last 12 months. It is noteworthy that in the three inflationary cuts, the variations in the RMRJ are higher than the national ones. In relation to the country, the percentage weight of the IPCA-15 in the RMRJ is 9.77%.
