A survey released on Wednesday (08/06) showed that the country currently has about 33,1 million people without food on a daily basis, almost double the number of people in a situation of hunger estimated in 2020. In absolute numbers, there are 14 million more people starving in the country. The first survey, released in April last year, estimated the total number of Brazilians who had nothing to eat in 2020 at 19 million, around 9 million more than in 2018, when this population totaled 10,3 million people. The data comes from the 2º Inquérito Nacional sobre Insegurança Alimentar no Contexto da Pandemia da Covid-19 no Brasil, promoted by the Rede Brasileira de Pesquisa em Soberania e Segurança Alimentar e Nutricional (Rede PENSSAN).
Homeless Population Increase

From January to May, more than 26.000 new people were registered as homeless, in CadÚnico, the Federal Government registry that gives access to social benefits. Today, the country has officially 184.634 thousand people in this situation. In December 2021, there were 158.191.
