The Brazilian Navy put into operation, on Tuesday 5th, the first fleet of unmanned aircraft (drones). The ceremony to activate the squadron took place at the São Pedro da Aldeia Naval Air Base, Rio de Janeiro state. The creation of the 1st Remotely Controlled Aircraft Squadron (EsqdQE-1) will contribute to provide a significant increase in the operational capacity of the naval force’s ships during intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions. According to the Navy, drones can be used in land and sea operations, including at night, for naval traffic control, prevention of illicit activities, piracy, terrorism, disaster monitoring, and rescue and safeguard operations at sea.
