Since last Friday (09/09), in São Paulo, those who use Pedro II and Saúde subway stations, on Line 3-Red and Line 1-Blue, respectively, are now faced with metal detection towers in front of the turnstiles. According to the São Paulo Metro, the equipment is part of a pilot project that aims to reinforce security on the lines operated by the company. The start of testing comes after a series of security incidents were reported in recent weeks. The first day of operation of the metal detectors had the support of agents from the Metropolitan Police Station (Delpom). The São Paulo Metro did not say whether the installation of the metal detectors in the pilot project will be temporary or definitive and whether there is a plan to expand the use of the devices to other stations. The company also disclosed that it is investing in the expansion and renovation of security cameras, which help in the investigation of cases of robberies and thefts.
