SÃO PAULO SECURITY INCIDENTS – AUGUST MONTHLY BULLETIN

Cases of child sexual exploitation filed in the São Paulo State Court have risen more than eightfold since the pandemic, from 12 in 2020 to 105 in 2024, with 95 cases already recorded by July 2025. The most frequent offense is “indecent acts in the presence of a minor under 14,” which grew from 3 cases in 2020 to 90 in 2023, accounting for 45% of incidents. Experts link the increase to greater police and judicial specialization and the expansion of social media in children’s lives. The recent video by YouTuber Felca denouncing another influencer for exploiting minors reignited debate on regulating social networks. NGOs like Safernet also report a 114% rise in online child pornography reports, while São Paulo’s Disque 100 hotline logged 53 complaints in two days, more than double the monthly average.

TV Globo reported that robberies and burglaries in residential condominiums in São Paulo have tripled in 2025, with 12 incidents already recorded, compared to 4 in 2024. According to former Deic chief Clóvis Ferreira de Araújo, former bank robbery gangs are now targeting these more vulnerable sites, often by cloning garage remote controls. Between August 2 and 8, police dismantled an organization operating in Moema (18 people arrested) and foiled an attempted arrastão in the Paraíso district.
