SÃO PAULO SECURITY INCIDENTS – JULY MONTHLY BULLETIN

During the first half of 2026, São Paulo state recorded 195,500 thefts and robberies of wedding bands, marking a 24.1% decline compared to the same period in 2025. Despite the reduction, the capital city still averages nearly 20 ring snatchings per hour, totaling 84,700 cases. Criminals frequently disguise themselves as delivery riders and cover their license plates to ambush victims, feeding an illicit secondary market where the stolen gold is instantly melted down to erase identifying marks.

During the first five months of 2026, pharmacies across Greater São Paulo recorded over 400 robberies and burglaries, with criminals increasingly targeting high-value weight-loss pens (GLP-1 medications). In a 72-hour window between July 15 and July 17, at least five drugstores were raided across the metropolitan area, including sites in Pinheiros, Cotia, and Itaim Bibi. Integrated police operations led to multiple arrests, firearm seizures, and the recovery of dozens of stolen medication boxes.
