On Monday (15/05), app drivers promoted a stoppage in the category throughout Brazil. The movement requested drivers to take a “day-off” and to suspend operations for 24 hours. The drivers demand better working conditions. Despite previous difficulties the category had to promote a homogeneous movement before, impacts were seen, such as an increase in tariffs.

The traffic was affected in strategic locations where drivers decided to block streets or carry out a motorcade. The demonstration began at 4h00 and ended at 4h00 on Tuesday (16/05).
Consequences
Passengers who tried to use transport applications such as Uber and 99 on Monday (15/05) faced cancellation of rides, longer waiting times and an increase of up to 50% in prices in several cities across the country, like São Paulo.
In Rio de Janeiro, during the morning, around 40 drivers gathered in front of Santos Dumont airport, downtown. Around 8h00, they followed in a motorcade to the Uber building, also in the city central area, for a demonstration. Military police and Municipal Guard agents followed the protest.
In São Paulo, approximately 70 drivers gathered around Praça Charles Miller, in front of the Pacaembu stadium to start the demonstration. The motorcade continued to the Uber building, on Rua Verbo Divino, in the South Zone of São Paulo.
According to G1, in addition to Rio and São Paulo, demonstrations were reported in cities in the states of Ceará, Piauí, Paraná, Santa Catarina and Mato Grosso do Sul.
Demands
The workers claim that the value of rides must increase to a minimum of R$ 10. They also want an increase in the amount paid per kilometer driven and a reduction in the percentage of rides discounted by companies. Among other demands, the professionals ask for safety to work.
Organization
The national stoppage was called through social networks, with the participation of the Federation of Drivers by Application of Brazil (FEMBRAPP).
