02/02/2023 – A 28-year-old motorcycle courier was shot in the head in Praiamar, Serra. The criminal still fled taking the victim’s motorcycle. Residents were desperate to see the body lying in the middle of the street. Some residents said that the neighborhood is quiet and, therefore, they were scared by the crime.

06/02/2023 – A 17-year-old teenager was killed with several shots on Sunday night (5), in the Vila Nova de Colares neighborhood, in Serra. According to the police, he was involved in drug trafficking and died a few meters away from the family home.
08/02/2023 – A man was shot during a confrontation between suspects in Serra. According to witnesses, there were about 15 minutes of shooting. After searches, two homemade machine guns were seized.
09/02/2023 – A 29-year-old young man was shot at dawn on Thursday (09) at a bar located in the André Carloni neighborhood, in Serra. Police said the victim was surprised by two men who asked the boy to leave the establishment. Upon leaving the bar, the criminals shot at the young man, hitting him several times.
10/02/2023 – In just 30 seconds, two armed criminals stole the vehicle of the owner of a liquor store, cell phone and jewels of three other people in the Castelândia neighborhood, Serra, on Thursday (09).
12/02/2023 – Police officers patrolling the Planalto Serrano neighborhood, early on Sunday (12), were attacked by a criminal, who even threw a grenade at the police vehicle. According to the police officers who participated in the occurrence, the artifact, however, did not explode, since the bandit would have forgotten to remove the safety pin from the object.
16/02/2023 – A 44-year-old woman was murdered indoors, in the Central Carapina neighborhood, in Serra. The crime took place on Wednesday night (15) and was witnessed by three children of the victim. One of them was on her mother’s lap. According to the first police information, the woman was at home with the children, when a man came in shooting.
16/02/2023 – Four suspects exchanged fire with the Military Police, invaded houses and one of them died after fleeing in the Enseada de Jacaraípe neighborhood, in Serra, on the night of Wednesday (15). Around 9 PM, the police, during a patrol, saw the group in a suspicious attitude. Three of the criminals were armed and, to escape, they shot at the military, who retaliated.
18/02/2023 – A 22-year-old man was shot in the foot while drinking with colleagues on the street. The case took place in the São Marcos II neighborhood, in Serra. No suspects have been arrested so far. According to the victim’s report to the police, the shots were fired while the young man was in a bar.
22/02/2023 – A man was killed with three shots to the head after a Carnival party, in Parque Jacaraípe, in Serra, on Tuesday night (21). A teenager was also shot. According to witness statements to the Police, two suspects approached the victim and fired several shots. The man could not resist and died at the scene.
23/02/2023 – Drugs and several firearm ammunition were seized during police actions, on Wednesday (22), in the Jardim Carapina neighborhood, in Serra. The material was found after two occurrences in the region with persecution and exchange of fire between police and criminals.
TRENDS & ADVICE
- Robberies and thefts against pedestrians are among the city’s major risks, the Parque Residencial das Laranjeiras, Jardim Limoeiro, Carapina, Região das Laranjeiras and Novo Horizonte concentrate the highest number of incidents.
- Avoid any display of wealth (jewelry, cell phones), but always carry a small amount of money (R$50) to hand over to muggers.
- In case of robbery: cooperate, do not try to run after the assailant as he or she might not be alone or turn violent.
- Violent drug trafficking gangs are present in the city. People must never access areas controlled by them, such as Bairro de Fátima, Helio Ferraz, Jardim Carapina, all Novas Carapinas, Boa Vista, and São Diogo.
- In the case of being in the immediate vicinity of a shootout: Lay on the ground and seek cover.
- When it is safe to do so, find the nearest building, stay away from windows, do not move unless you are sure that the gunfire has ended.
- Avoid walking alone in poorly lit areas or beaches after nightfall.
- Be always cautious, even in the areas considered safe.
