Between January and November 2025, the city of São Paulo recorded an average of 46 cell phone thefts or robberies per day within the public transport system, totaling over 15,000 cases. Data from the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) indicates that 94% of these incidents occurred in the metro and train systems, with the Luz and Barra Funda stations identified as the primary hot spots. While 89% of the crimes were non-violent thefts, the SSP highlighted a general downward trend in overall mobile crimes across the state, noting that over 80,000 devices have been recovered since 2023.
In 2025, the city of São Paulo recorded 154,058 cell phone robberies and thefts, averaging 17 incidents per hour. The highest concentration of crimes occurred in the downtown neighborhoods of República, Santa Ifigênia, Liberdade, and Jardins, which together accounted for over 36,000 cases. - As sexual aggressions are on the rise, women should pay special attention to the environments where they go to, avoid empty and dark places.
- During a night out, never accept food and beverages from strangers, as they can put some drugs in them. Men and women alike are targets of such crimes.
