Rio de Janeiro’s Military Police is implementing new operational strategies for 2023. The Secretary of State for the Military Police of the State of Rio de Janeiro, Luiz Henrique Pires, has determined a new guideline that orders that all teams must carry non-lethal weapons in street policing, in addition to conventional weapons.
The elaboration of protocols of good practices on the use of less lethal weapons was one of the proposals that came out of a public hearing, carried out by determination of the Federal Supreme Court, with the objective of updating the plan to reduce police lethality presented by the Rio de Janeiro State Government.
